Tumblr Purge Sucks

I’d like to keep in touch with the many people I’ve befriended here on Tumblr. My Twitter, Instagram and PSN handles are the same as my Tumblr one. I’ve got Deviantart, too but I am hardly there.

A better, more positive Tumblr

staff:

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

This is what kills Tumblr… thanks a bunch. I’ve made friends on this site and they’re mostly fan artists and fan fic writers. They’re awesome people. Some of them rely on Tumblr to get commissions. Therefore, you’ve just killed their livelihood.

Thanks a lot.

From someone who’s survived MySpace, livejournal, deviantart, and fanfiction.nets’ content purges and bad policy updates, here’s some advice on how to get through tumblr’s recent bullshit:

– don’t knee jerk delete. I know it’s tempting to peace out immediately but hang on and do the other steps first. Out right ghosting and erasing everything is how fandoms die.

– archive everything on your blog you want to keep

– tell your followers how they can archive and keep your work too. A lot of fic and art were only saved from ff.net and lj because other people saved it first. If you’re cool with other people saving your work for them to personally keep, let them know this. You can absolutely discourage reposting but I really do highly recommend you allow people to personally save fic and art they like and are worried will disappear forever. Digital Dark Ages are a real thing.

– tell people where you’re jumping ship to. Give links. Keep that info up, even if you’ve left the site.

– go through who you follow and find out where else you can follow them. Save their work if they’ll allow it. It’s tedious as hell but if you want to keep up with people on here clicking on their page to check in is the best way to do it.

– support places like ao3. This is exactly why ao3 asks for donations a few times a year. They are a 100% anti-purging, judgement free, ad free non profit run by an elected board and protected by lawyers. Places like ao3 literally save fandom so please continue to support them and other similar archives. This is exactly why ao3 is so important.

Like and reblog if you’re staying on tumblr

I’ll stick around, even if it’s to watch the whole thing go up in flames XD

Like I said already, I’m not leaving or anything. I’ve taken precautions to make sure my posts are backed up, but I am not quitting this platform anytime soon!

I mean, I’ve been here this long. Might as well stay until it’s not optional for posts to be in chronological order

I’m staying on off if spite. They gon have to drag me out

In light of this Tumblr purge re. NSFW content (especially visual artists) I’ve gone and created a discord server (despite having shitty discord experiences in the past lol) where we can all thot and share our works (adult content or not) in a safe and censorship free environment.

Please note, legit this server will be unmoderated for everything except bullying of other members, clear trash talk of other member’s content, and extreme under-aged sexualised discussions.

This is an 18+ server; anyone who joins who is under this age accepts that they have done so on their own accord, and if they are found out to be under aged, they will be given the boot (sorry).

SFW content will still be cross posted her on Tumblr, but legit I think we all need a safe space to talk thotty trash and share lewd arts and stuff!

Anyone is welcome to join; legit all grudges and past grievances aside, let’s all just thot in peace pls.

Oh and this is a positive safe space, there will be no vent channel. We all have demons we face every day. That doesn’t mean we need to drown others in those burdens. If you wanna reach out to me privately to talk about heavy issues, you can DM me— just keep the server positive for those who come for an escape! 🤓💜

For now though, legit I’ll be posting filthy smut drabbles as often as I can on this blog in sheer protest of this ridiculous new set of guidelines. Our artist friends deserve better 💜💜💜💕💕💕

Save The Blogs!

Okay, folks. So. Tumblr’s jumped the shark in a big way, and I’m not even just talking about indiscriminately blocking all “adult” content on a platform that IS, in fact, primarily 18+.

Many blogs, like the wonderful @blackkatmagic , that are not especially NSFW have vanished.

(And I for one LIKE being able to go to curated porn blogs run by actual people and have a chance of finding stuff to my taste, it was one of the things that kept me on this hellsite, but that’s another issue entirely.)

I know lots of people are talking about migrating, but none of us are sure to where yet. Pillowfort seems to be an option, some people are talking about Twitter. But for now, it’s a mess, and even if we knew where we were going, it’s often a huge process, and a lot of us have stuff on tumblr that ONLY exists there.

One possible quick solution to save your blogs, both NSFW and personal, is to import it to WordPress. I found this solution through from frantic googling on how to save an entire blog, text posts an all. There are several apps for downloading all the pictures from a tumblr, (Plently for Windows, but only a few paid ones for mac, of which Tumbelog Picture Downloader is working for me so far) but this is the only solution I’ve seen so far that allows you to save EVERYTHING. I downloaded my NSFW blog in like 10 min. My regular blog, which is significantly larger, is in the process of importing, but I don’t anticipate any problems. I will, of course, update you if I have any.

This tutorial I found worked really easily. http://quickguide (.) tumblr (.) com/post/39780378703/backing-up-your-tumblr-blog-to-wordpress

I put parenthesis around the .’s like we’re back in FF-Hell, just in case tumblr’s new thing about outgoing links kicks in. You know what to do.

To break it down, just in case:

Sign up for a WordPress.com account at wordpress (.) com/start

You’ll have to create an account, with your email, a username, and a password. They should send you a confirmation email immediately, check it, activate it, and you’re good to go.

On the site, it will ask you for a site name. That page asks you a bunch of other information too, but you only have to fill out the site name.

Then you have to give your site a URL. If you’re lucky, your tumblr URL is still available, if not you’ll have to come up with another one, sorry.

It will tell you if that option is still available for free.

Then it will ask you to pick a plan. Free is really good enough, I swear.

Now you’re set up! You can import your tumblr!

The only differences from the linked tutorial are that the Import button is now on the first level menu, not in tools.

Hit Import, then you have to follow the link for “other importers”  at the bottom, to find the option for Tumblr.

Then you’ll have to sign in with tumblr, using your normal tumblr credentials. You’ll be redirected there automatically.

You’ll have to allow WordPress permissions on your blog.

Then your blogs, including all your sideblogs, will show up in wordpress.

Hit import, wait a WHILE depending on the size of your blog, and you’re done!

ALSO!!

I made my NSFW blog private for now, since I don’t know WP’s policy on NSFW.

This means that to access it, someone has to have an account and request access. But hey, part of our problem on this hellsite has been people going places they aren’t wanted, so I don’t personally see this as a bad thing. They can send a request from the landing site on your blog, you get an email, click a link in the email, and PRESTO, they have access.

To make it private, go to Settings > Reading > Site Visibility. Go back and check, it took me changing the setting twice for it to actually stick.

tl;dr, you can import your entire blog to wordpress in just a few steps.

I’m going to tag the hell out of this, in no particular order. PLEASE reblog this and spread the word so people know it’s an option. If you’re having trouble, PM me, and I’m happy to help.

There are a whole bunch more, but that’s a start. Please reblog the hell out of this, so people are aware of this one simple option.

For people asking how to backup thier blog

This is very good

Going to save this for later

@abovethesmokestacks @tilltheendwilliwrite useful I think? For text post and such that we can’t import to AO3?

Speedo Gladio

At long last, I have made a skimpy swimsuit for Gladio! I know a lot of you
wanted this as much as me 😉 I did splice his official feet onto the
legs, hopefully I will be able to touch up the seams later on. I hope everyone likes this outfit, it took a lot of work! PS I’m still
praying that someone will figure out the skin texture set-up/settings so
they display properly in certain lighting…

Smutting 101

supahimagery:

Besides action, the thing most people seem to be intimidated by is smut/sex scenes/lemon (if you still call it that). A lot of people don’t know where to start or how they should go about sex. As someone who loves to write sexy good times (it’s like all I write nowadays), I’ve decided to share some of the basics of the smut genre to help out scared writers!

  • Embarrassment

One of the most common things I hear from people is that they’re embarrassed to write smut. They struggle through sex scenes with a prominent blush on their face, overheating before the first article of clothing is removed. I can’t say I’ve experienced this myself. Maybe in the very beginning a little bit, but generally I don’t get embarrassed when it comes to writing smut. Even if there’s other people in the room with me, as long as they’re not right over my shoulder, I could care less. Maybe not getting embarrassed is something that comes with experience…which you’ll never get if you don’t start! There’s nothing to be embarrassed about when you write smut. Sex is natural. It’s a human thing. Most people will eventually do it. People go crazy over romance films and TV shows. And, a lot of people read it. You’re one in a million. The internet is full of smut fics and literotica. Take pride in your work! Just because it’s sex that doesn’t devalue your writing in any way, despite what some people will tell you. Sex isn’t something to be ashamed about! Besides, it’s usually harder to write sex and it takes a skilled hand, especially when we get into unusual positions, complex fetishes, and polyamorous relationships, but I’ll save all that for another post. Just started writing! Jump on in and get some experience! The point is there’s no reason to be embarrassed as long as you’re old enough to be writing sex to begin with. So, plop yourself down in a nice quiet room, and let those characters ravish each other! But, what if you’re embarrassed because this is your first sex scene and you don’t think it’s good enough?

  • Research

The answer to that problem is simple: research. Not everyone who writes sex has had sex. I’m a perfectly good example of that one! Don’t feel like you can’t write sex just because you haven’t experienced it. Writers tackle things they haven’t experienced on the daily. It’s a sign of a good author when they explore topics they may not be familiar with. But, what they must do is research. Professional authors have someone to do that for them, but we’re not all that lucky. Sometimes all it takes is a quick Google search to find some reliable sources (I’m assuming you know how to judge whether a site is reliable or not at this point). So, how do you research sex? Well, the most obvious answer is porn. Porn allows you to see everything in action even if it’s unrealistic in a lot of cases. Porn can help you visualize different positions and get a feel for what else besides the fucking you need to describe. There’s actually a handy section on Pornhub just to educate the masses! Of course, you’ll probably want to be incognito if you’re looking up porn. However, I know porn isn’t for everyone. That’s not your only option! Another way to research sex is to Google the kama sutra for positions or look up Cosmo web articles and things of the like. They’ll usually vividly describe different sex poses and sometimes even offer a non-graphic visual to boot. You also have your clinical and proper resources which will describe the technicalities of sex like you were taking sex ed again. Sometimes these articles are needed when you need to know about anatomy or how much preparation is needed for different types of sex (fyi: you can never have enough preparation for anal sex). And lastly, the good old-fashioned way of researching sex is to read your favorite smutty stories! Now, you’ll have to trust your author knows what they’re talking about, which is why I recommend you use another form of research with this. Not sure if the author knows what they’re talking about? Check the comment sections. Someone will usually point out what’s wrong with a sex scene. We’ve all heard the saying that better writers read a lot. If you want to write smut, read what other people write! It’s sure to spark some ideas. If you’re still embarrassed because this is your first sex scene and you’re unsure about it, have a trusted friend read it over! I’m sure they’d love to! And, if you’re really out of options here, by all means, shoot me a message. I can spare a couple of minutes to read through and provide some feedback!

  • Pacing

The next few topics I will be discussing concern the general mistakes I see when people write smut. The first on the list is pacing. Pacing is the tempo of your work, and let me tell you, a lot of people mess this up. Their sex scenes seem to fly by. I remember reading one fic where the sex lasted a total of three sentences. Three sentences?! I’m a strickler for description, so my recommended length for sex is probably around a page or two at least. There’s way too much to describe about sex for you to only have a few paragraphs. When the pacing for smut in a fic is too fast for me it completely ruins the entire mood and story. You could have the biggest build-up imaginable, but if you fall flat during the execution, you’ll be losing a lot of readers. Now, depending on the situation of the sex, there’s instances where the pacing is fast. This is usually when either one or both partners are virgins, in which case they’re going to orgasm faster simply because they’ve never experienced something like this before, or when the characters are trying to have a quick session. But, any other time, sex is something you sit down for because it’s going to last a while, especially when it comes to kinks. Generally, there’s a lot more foreplay than actual sex. And, don’t forget the preparation either! If you’re writing anal sex and you’re having one dude slip inside the other easily, that’s not realistic. That may work for vaginal sex, after the woman has been stimulated enough to be that lubricated, but the ass is completely different territory, but I’ll get into that mess later. When I write smut I usually spend the majority of the time on foreplay. When my characters are finally inside of each other, that’s when I start to speed things up because they’re already so on edge, it makes sense for them to go a little bit faster. Or, they can be sensual and slow it down even more. The pacing all depends on the mood. Don’t make it fast unless it has a reason to be.

  • Foreplay

So, I mentioned foreplay, but what really is the foreplay portion of sex? It’s everything leading up to them being inside each other. That’s right. All the nitty gritty details of getting into the bedroom and riling each other up beforehand. Foreplay should last either just as long or longer than the actual sex itself unless again you’re dealing with virgins or the situation calls for a quickie. Most of the time I enjoy the foreplay more than the actual sex. Foreplay can be kissing, biting, leaving marks, scratching, nipple sucking, ass grabbing, preparation, oral sex, dirty talk, spanking, caressing, grinding, etc. There’s a lot that can be done, particularly for kinks since most of them require a scene, again to be talked about later since this is just the basics. Really drag out your foreplay. Describe how each partner is feeling. Describe every little movement, each sound of satisfaction, the heat in their stomachs, the breathes they share, and the words they exchange. Foreplay is when you set up the mood for your smut. If it’s rough, then there’s a lot of biting, growling, and jerky movements. If it’s sensual, then there’s lapping tongues, gentle caresses, and heartfelt words. Remember that you’re building the reader up just as much as you’re building the characters up. Try not to do too much in one sentence such as: “He unbuckled his pants, grabbed the condom, ripped it from its wrapper, and rolled it over his head.” Take this long sentence apart and describe each part slowly. “He unbuckled his pants, the click of his belt making her thighs tremble. He smirked down at her as he grabbed the condom off the nightstand. He peeled it open gently, enjoying watching her squirm. He rolled the unwrapped condom gently over his head, teasing her with his every movement.” Which one sounds better? Precisely. You want to engross your reader in the smut. Make them feel it. Then, when they’re on the brink, and only after thorough preparation, comes the penetration.

  • Word Choice

Finally, I wanted to discuss word choice. There are a lot of words you can use when writing smut that you can’t use anywhere else. Does that mean you should use them? Absolutely not. Again, this is all circumstantial, but generally you want to avoid these words when it comes to smut because they completely throw off the mood and distract your reader.

Penis: Too clinical sounding, not sexy at all, should only be used if the character is a virgin or not the smoothest dirty talker
Good substitutes: cock, dick, length, member, erection, arousal, bulge

Hot: Don’t overuse this word, should really only be used to describe temperature, or in dialogue or a character’s thoughts, sounds unprofessional
Good substitutes: sexy, sensual, erotic, alluring, captivating, sultry, voluptuous

Sperm: Too clinical sounding, not sexy at all, should only be used in a medical or educational environment
Good substitutes: cum, jizz, essence, fluid, semen

Butt: Gross, not sexy at all, sounds like you’re in middle school
Good substitutes: ass, mounds, cheeks, rear, backside, bottom, seat

Butthole: Gross, not sexy at all, you’re really stuck in middle school now
Good substitutes: entrance, asshole, hole, opening, orifice, rosebud, passage

I’m not saying you can’t use these words, and some people may find them appealing. It’s up to you and your style. But, for me and most of the other people I’ve heard from, these aren’t particularly sexy words. Maybe that’s what you’re going for or you are writing about young love and they don’t quite know the meaning of sensual yet. Whatever the case may be, just keep these things in mind. If you’re trying to write something loving and deep and full of lust, don’t use these words. It’s all about the mood.

That’s all I have for your guys today! I hope this helps a few people out. Of course, like I’ve said, these are just the basics to get people going. I’ll be making plenty more posts that go way more in-depth, so stay tuned for those! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns my ask box is open~!

Okay, Disney, I’ve had a bone to pick with you for a while

dracophile:

Where the hell is “Tiana’s Place”? Don’t get smart and say New Orleans, I mean for real. Why have you not made a Tiana’s Place at one of your parks?

image

I see no possible reason why you wouldn’t have built a restaurant like this yet. It’s cute, classy, and would be totally fun. You could serve creole food (as well as just plain american fair for the less adventurous.)

image

It would be pretty as hell inside

image

It would be fun for kids and adults, you could have dancing and a band playing. You could have a magician (bonus points if he’s dressed liked Facilier. Or train your Faciler face person to do short tarot card readings! Or get a mama Odi!)

image

The face characters could come in and out, but there’s always a set time Tiana and Naveen would be there (and if they aren’t you can say their in the kitchen cooking up a storm!) Jazz music! Lots of Jazz and swing. You could have workshops with Tiana for kids to learn stuff like the charleston, or cooking!

image
image

And then night or during the day a couple times a week you could have a second line (small New Orleans style jazz parade) with a brass band and Tiana and Naveen leading it, all the way to the restaurant.

image

And Oh my god, do you consider how many people would love a place like that to get married at the park! Having a wedding second line too? How fun that would be?

image

Disney, you are really missing out by not playing up the fact you have a character that opened their own restaurant (outside of Remi from Ratatouille but that’s another rant) and I’m really sick of The Princess and the Frog being among your more ignored movies. Put it at Epcot near the river or just anywhere! Heck, I know I stayed at a New Orleans style resort area of yours when I was like six! (Is that still around? I don’t remember what it was called, but there were Gator statues with instruments that would tie in really well…)

In conclusion
